With the increased rage about pollution created from plastic and ban on plastic in some states of India, is forcing a lot of people to move towards better alternatives. The Indian government has pledged to ban all single use of plastic products by 2022 and we all as responsible citizens must join hands to contribute in this wonderful initiative.
Everyday day millions of straws are used right from your Thelewala's , street side juice vendor, to restaurants, to your fancy coffee shops. Everyone uses straws in huge quantities and different qualities. So can we even imagine how dependent our lifestyles are on single use plastic products?
I have made a conscious effort to switch to stainless steel straws in order to create awareness and I #RefuseTheStraw at restaurants and carry my own biodegradable straw.
Reasons why i prefer steel straws are because :-
1.You can "Sip with steel" for a longer time and relish your drink because steel retains the temperature of your drink and prevents it from melting down ( Remember most flasks have an inner steel body for the same reason).
2. They are absolutely free from Carcinogenic (Cancer causing) , Neurotoxic (Poisonous to nerve tissue) chemicals which are heavily found in plastic straws.
And.... Steel straws are BPA Free too.
3. Worried about cleaning on the inside of the straw?
It comes with a cleaner which is again a convincing reason to use them.
4. Stainless steel straws have great tensile strength, so one straw will a last you sooo long & reduce usage of 500 plastic straws per year per person.
